Meet Bill
Artist Statement
My paintings are small, vibrant acrylic works on wood panels, capturing everyday urban scenes from my local environment. I'm drawn to the seemingly mundane aspects of the city, focusing on details like utility poles and street signs, transforming them into subjects of artistic exploration.
Composition is paramount in my work. I strive to create visually engaging arrangements that draw the viewer in. While the scenes are rooted in reality, I often take creative liberties with color, experimenting with combinations that resonate on a visual level, rather than strictly adhering to naturalism.
There is a tension in my paintings between a graphic quality and a painterly texture. The works feel both handmade and boldly graphic, a reflection of my dual life as an artist and an architect. My architectural background deeply influences my subject matter, often emphasizing the forms and structures that define our urban landscape.
Essentially, my art is an attempt to find beauty in the everyday, to elevate the ordinary through the lens of color and composition. The small scale of the paintings invites close observation, offering a moment of quiet contemplation within the bustling cityscape.
